Our name comes from the axolotl — and we take that responsibility seriously.
The axolotl — the aquatic form of the Aztec god Xolotl — is critically endangered. Once abundant in the ancient lake systems of Mexico's Valley, wild axolotls now survive only in the degraded canals of Lake Xochimilco in Mexico City. Pollution, invasive species, and urban sprawl have pushed their numbers below 1,000.
These creatures can regenerate limbs, spinal cords, even parts of their brain. As keystone species, they maintain ecological balance in their habitat. Their extreme sensitivity to pollution makes them living water quality monitors — when the axolotl disappears, the water has failed. That parallel to what we do every day is not lost on us.
A portion of every Xolotlito Pool Care service goes directly toward axolotl conservation — supporting habitat restoration, captive breeding programs, and the traditional chinampa farming communities building clean-water refuges in Xochimilco.
